FRENCH COUNTRY

Gently flowing lines, delicate carvings, in soft toned finishes are the principal characteristics of French Country. This style was developed principally during the 18th and 19th centuries by French artisans of the provinces, hence the name French provincial used synonymously for this style. The cabinet makers of this period would attempt to emulate the elaborate forms that were popular in Paris at the time. In the actual design execution, much of the very ornate shapes and carvings were reduced to simpler forms while still preserving the graceful curves and carvings. Make it formal or causal; it simply works.
